Poem - Four Corners

Four Corners

On a winter
evening
I wish

for the morning
that the sunrise reddened the sky

for that day
we sped up the pass
the top down
the cold air blowing
the turquoise sky shining us, on

for the rutted road to the spring
to know that it flows
in a red desert
the water
edged green

for the autumn evening
Zuni
the Kachina celebration
the smell of mesquite in the air

for the cold night
the Navajo rodeo
warming by the open fire
eating hot fried bread
pinto beans and cheese

I saw the moon on the plateau
knew the fabric
spun wool
died and colored
woven

  1. The imagery here is both rich and powerful. Love this!
