Foul Play
Quietly they perched in their yard
Enjoying the flowers
as the large two legged beasts
hurried about
White as snow
they watched
at breakfast
at lunch
and at dinner
not needing a grain
to keep their vigor
They heard the buzz
of visiting children chattering
eager and at play
but from them
not a peep
With a clap like thunder
they flew from their nest
they attempted
a floor landing
but as eggs
went shattering
The calamity of this catastrophe
was eased
as the birds did not die that day
They flew on as a fond memory
