POEM - NOT KEWL

NOT KEWL

The first step to changing

Don’t say
Dude

Chick
Is insulting

Riding our 10 speeds
the road to Lake Mary seemed flat

I could see you ahead
or would look back
to make sure you followed

On the bikes
our sweaty clothes

hung drying

In the early spring warmth
with the sparkle of the sun
on the cold water
and our goose pimpled skin

we splashed

Turning
and smiling
You made me your focus

Billie Jean beat Bobby

You said
boy
we need to raise

your consciousness

  1. This does what a poem should--it gives of a sense of time and place using concrete details and sensory imagery.. and at the same time tells us a bit about ourselves and what it means to be human. Nice!
